In this 5 week course you will learn how to maintain positivity when approaching child birth, and how to reduce the fear and anxiety that sometimes accompanies it.
In the first 2 weeks, we will practice very basic sophrology exercises to strengthen your mind and body connection. This is absolutely essential. In sophrology, we do not borrow a special power or energy from something else, but rather use what already exists within our own body. We already have that super power within our deeper self. We usually do not notice it and sometimes feel helpless or lost, but that is only because our mind-body connection was not strong enough. Once we learn how to connect and tune into it, we will be ready to step up to other various exercises.
During the 3rd week, we will create our own safe space in our mind and body, and learn how to come back to the safe place whenever we need to. This exercise is called ‘The Anchor”. This exercise is very useful when you begin to feel you might panic.
In the 4th week, you will visualize yourself; a mother who has just had a very successful and positive child birth. This exercise is called ‘futurization’. We will create a future that we want to have with our own will. Maybe this future image is still just an image, but it does not make any difference for our body. It reacts as if it is real. By doing this exercise, we create the positive body sensations that are associated with a successful experience, and are enabled to make it really happen.
In the final week, we will practice how to breathe during childbirth. We will talk about how labour will progress, and how you breathe will depend on the stage of your labour. We will use breathing and visualization to make us calm and make the labour quick and healthy.
Although the Sophrology Birth technique does not require physical help from your partner, you are very welcome to bring your birth partner at no extra cost. It is beneficial for both of you to understand what the sophrology birth technique is and to understand each other during childbirth. This sophrology group session will also help your partner become more mentally positive as you both approach the upcoming birth.
Almost all exercises are done while sitting on a chair or in a standing position, apart from in the final week. At that time, for breathing practice, we will take a comfortable position on the floor with some pillows.
A downloadable audio file will be given after every session to guide you through your own Sophrology practice at home. It takes only 10 minutes per day or 20 minutes every two days. It is important to practice at home as often as you can. If you like you can play your favourite music after the exercise, and bring the music to the place where you will give birth. This technique can help you quickly tune into your sophrology state and help you become more relaxed.
It is recommended to complete this course before you reach 36 weeks of pregnancy. Around 28 weeks of pregnancy is the best time to start this course.
